After spending several weeks drooling over a navy blue circle skirt on ebay and finally getting my sewing machine I knew what I wanted to make. A salty £50 price on ebay wasn't exactly tempting and after paying a visit in a local craft shop, buying from ebay was out of the question.

The materials for this skirt cost me exactly £10 and it only took me an hour to make. It was super easy and fun to do! The fabric is some sort synthetic blended fabric, very light-weight, but still nice and thick(ish). I like the soft and slippy texture.

I bought 2 metres of fabric (160cm wide) and used pretty much all of it. Only some small pieces were spared after cutting. I also used a 16cm long zip.

I was so inspired by this lovely picture, I had to create something like it for myself too. 

What I made was something more simple and crafty-looking. 

I used my left-over threads from older cross stitching projects and cut a good size piece on Aida fabric. I found the moustache pattern from Pinterest, but created the lips myself to have them matching the moustache.

Oh bandana! (Brother to the rescue!)

 Today's project was to turn old headband into a cute bandana look-a-like.
This is a simple and quick project and doesn't need much materials. It took me 20 minutes to finish glueing the fabric and ribbon onto the headband, sewing the bow and tying it on. 
Don't you just love the result? I know I do.
Speaking of sewing, today I picked up my new little brother from the store. I mean my brother X-5 sewing machine, that I've been thinking about getting for months now.
He's finally home and I love him. I hadn't realized how much I'd missed sewing until today.

Sweet indeed

Let's go back in time, only one day. I spent my Valentine's day with one of my best girls. And what did we do? Cupcakes of course! 

Here's my bunch.

We made simple and tasty vanilla cupcakes with white and pink buttercreams. For decorating we used Love Hearts, sugar pearls and made some flowers and hearts with ready-to-roll icing. 

Everything was so pink! 

Here's the whole lot.

Scarf-tastic!

I love scarfs. I have a huge collection of all different kinds of them. Newest addition to my collection is this lovely bulky scarf.

It only took me two days to knit the scarf, using this Finnish pattern and Fashion Aran (70% acrylic, 30% wool) yarn in grey. Using 9mm needles and having the yarn double all the way, the consumption of the yarn was exactly 400g including the tassels. My new scarf is 2 metres long (without the tassels) and 26cm wide.

Two of my friends also requested on having tube scarfs, which I also knitted in only few days. Here we have my friend, being all shy. I used a simple pattern I've used before for my own scarfs (scarfs 1 & 2).

Two very happy girls with new scarfs, that's what I like!

This morning I woke up earlier than usual. As I couldn't get to sleep anymore, I thought I'd do something creative. So, I painted my nails, dyed my hair and got baking!

These are simple vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing and to decorate, some silver sugar balls. The roses are made of ready-to-roll icing.

Wrapped up

Almost two years can be spent making granny squares, few at a time, every now and then. Two day offs can be spent joining granny squares. The following evenings can be spent wrapped up in and under your new blanket.

Almost two years ago I decided to start making a granny square blanket, but only as a side project. I decided not to buy any yarn for it, only use the left-overs. So, once in a while I had to wait until I had more left-overs again. I got some yarns from my gran, mom and friends. I was in no rush.

Tonight I've wrapped in this lovely new blanket, as we speak. The final size turned out as big as 140cm X 190cm.

In total I crocheted 192 squares with 4 rows each. For joining, I used this brilliant tutorial, which also made it look as if there was 5 rows in each square. I also made one biiig row to go around the whole blanket.

For joining, I used 350g of Hayfield's Bonus DK yarn, which was the only yarn I bought just for this project. It's acrylic, but I like the softness of it.

What shall I start next?

Boy-mittens

When on my holiday in Finland, I was given an assignment to knit a pair of mittens for nearly-teenage boy. I was also given a bunch of yarn balls to use in those mittens. It took me exactly 5 episodes of 24 to finish this pair. Now the only thing I need to do is to post them back to Finland before it gets too warm again! Let's hope the receiver will like these.

Here's also a little update for my granny square blanket, which I've promised to myself to finish (after making the squares for about 2 years) this year. I'm only 20 squares short, way to go me!

One last christmas present and then I'll be settled for the New Year!

I have this friend. She really likes The Nightmare Berofe Christmas. So, in christmas 2011 she unwrapped her very own Jack Skellington accompanied by a bottle of red wine.

The idea and pattern was again found from Ravelry but as I didn't like the original pattern, I modified my own.

I'm sure Jack will be very happy in his new home.

Snowflakes for the winter days

I found this lovely snowflake pattern from Ravelry and instantly fell in love with it. When I didn't need any mittens myself, I knitted these for my mom. Unfortunately I didn't see a single real snowflake, as the christmas in my hometown wasn't exactly snowy this year.

Matchboxes

For christmas, this is a very simple and quick gift idea. Beautifully decorated matchboxes are a perfect addition to candles or tinder roses. In these two I used big matchboxes, decorated with brown paper, ribbons and a christmas style pendant.

Simply glue the paper on the box (remember to leave the tinder side open!) and decorate!

This year I wanted my christmas wrapping to look traditional and still pretty. I chose brown paper for wrapping and red and white paper strings with red and white polka dotted gift tags.

I added some candy canes to some of the presents to bring a pretty look and delicious taste! The gift tags I made myself from empty Krispy Kreme's doghnut box.

Baby booties

Again, browsing Ravelry, I found this lovely pattern for oh-so-cute baby booties! The original pattern was in German, and as I can't read German and Google translator didn't exactly offer any help, I had to figure the pattern from the pictures. In the end, it was very simple and these turned out as I hoped!

Name day celebration

It was Anni's day yesterday in Finland. For that, I made this yummy yum bundt cake with a rainbow twist to celebrate my parent's choice for my name. 
When I got home today, there was barely a piece enough for one person left on the plate. I'm assuming everyone liked my cake.
 And speaking of parents, my dear mom sent me some lovely goodies to keep my celebration going! This sock magazine came with one of my favourite Finnish sweets and some other knick knacks.

Cozy feet

When the days get shorter and evenings colder, there's nothing nicer than putting on your comfty, cozy socks. This autumn, I've knitted few pairs of socks, only one pair for myself though.

Some of these are already in new homes, warming up new toes. Some pairs are travelling to their new owner via Santa's sack. (Obviously I can't reveal any more than that.)

Cupcake paradise

When in need for something quick and easy to bake, I recommend cupcakes. They're so simple, so quick, so cheap and there are way too many recipes available for them. There are countless ways to change the recipe to your liking and about million ways to decorate your cakes. I love making cupcakes for all these reasons.
Rockabilly cupcakes for my friend's birthday...
 ...and 'cause I decorated cupcakes, my boyfriend wanted too! (I put the butter cream, he did the decorating.)
Extremely chocolatey cupcakes made with uneaten easter eggs and a rainbow cupcake.
Heart shaped pear and cinnamon cakes, super yummy!
One more reason why I like baking cupcakes, is that no matter how simple and plain they might be, people still always love them!

Dream came true

For about two years, I'd been looking for an antique-looking bureau without results. I was so determined not to buy a new one, not to spend too much money on one and definitely not to get one from IKEA.
 There's a small house clearance charity shop near our house and last week I found this one from there! I don't know for how long it's been there or how many times I've walked pass it and left disappointed for not finding one.
 I absolutely love this. It has lots of space for all my crafty knick knacks, it's the perfect height for sitting at and the condition is amazingly good. The best part is still yet to be revealed, - the price that made me drop my chin to the floor - I got this for £30 plus free delivery to my door!! I already have sat by this gorgeous thing, doing my christmas craftings. Muffin also seems to like it.

Löysin yhestä kierrätyskeskus-tyylisestä kaupasta ihanimman pöydän ikinä! Oon varmaan parisen vuotta tämmöstä jo metsästellyt, huonolla tuurilla. Kriiteereinä mulla oli vain se, etten halunnut uutta enkä IKEAa - eikä liian kallista tietenkään. Tämä kyseinen yksilö on täydellinen, oon jo ehtiny askarrella tän ääressä. Parasta koko kaupassa oli vielä hinta, 30 puntaa ja ilmainen kotiinkuljetus!!

In with the new, but not out with the old

 I'm a big tube scarf-lover. They're just so handy and comfty. Last autumn, I knitted myself two scarfs, with the same pattern, but in different colours. This year, I wanted to try something new. I crocheted myself a new tube. It's not as snuggly as the others, but I love it all the same. For this scarf, I used Novita's Flipflop yarn in black and 15mm hook.
 As some of you might have noticed, for several reasons, the whole blog has changed it's language into English. I hope this won't have any affect in you, my dear readers. I'm still here, writing about the same things I did before. I also will be writing the translation part in Finnish. I have some other new and exciting things coming up, so stay tuned!

Recipe: Oreo truffles

I've kept seeing people making these yummy truffles, and of course I wanted to make some too! Bakerella has some lovely photos and a good recipe for them, but this time I used my own recipe.

Oreo truffles

makes 35 pieces

Ingredients:

1 pkg (about 15pcs) Oreos

4 tbsp cream cheese

200g chocolate for covering

+ sprinkles, cocoa powder etc..

1. Separate the biscuits from filling. Crust biscuits.

2. Mix biscuits, filling & cream cheese. Roll balls of the mixture with your hands and place on a tray. Put into the fridge to cool and set. (This makes the dipping easier.)

3. Melt the chocolate, dip balls into it. Roll in cocoa powder or decorate with sprikles.

4. Place in the fridge again to cool and set.

When I made these for the first time, they didn't last very long, all were gone the next day. And I'm not guilty!

Pituus olalta: 80cm
Leveys (etukpl): 68cm

TARVIKKEET:

Pyöröpuikot 3mm ja 4mm

Novita 7 veljestä lankaa, 5 kerää
Silmäneula, sakset, extralankaa ompeluun

TYÖSSÄ KÄYTETYT LYHENTEET:

s = silmukka
krs = kerros
kpl = kappale

TYÖ-OHJE:

Paita:

1. Luo 224 silmukkaa pyöröpuikolle nro 3.

2. Neulo 1o 1n-joustinneuletta noin 5cm.

3. Siirrä silmukat pyöröpuikolle nro 4 ja neulo aina oikein- neuletta, kunnes pituus kainalosta helmaan on 60cm. (Tai haluttu korkeus)

4.Jaa silmukat kahdelle puikolle seuraavasti: etukpl 118s ja takakpl 106s, jätä toinen kpl odottamaan siksi aikaa, kun neulot toisen. Suosittelen pyöröpuikkoja, jotka köytät kumilenksulla kiinni, niin ei pääse silmukat karkaamaan.
Työstä kappaleet erikseen kutomalla oikein- nurin- neulosta. Kavenna molemmista kappaleista 4s = 2s aina kerroksen alusta, 4:n krs:n ajan. = Etukpl 110s ja takakpl 98s.
Neulo, kunnes korkeus kaula-aukon alkuun on 22cm etukpl ja 25cm takakpl. (Tai haluttu korkeus)
HUOM! Jos siirsit toisen kpl:n odottamaan eri kokoiselle puikolle, muista siirtää silmukat ennen kuin alat työstää toista puolta!

Kaula-aukon kavennukset:
5. Etukpl: Neulo 49s, päättele 12s, neulo taas loput 49s. Käännä työ ja neulo ensin toinen puoli, kaventaen kaula-aukon puolelta joka kerroksen alussa 2s = 1s. Neulo 4-6 kerrosta, riippuen kaula-aukon halutusta koosta.
6. Päättele seuraavasti: nosta 1s neulomatta, neulo 1s, nosta neulomatta jätetty s neulotun yli. Neulo taas 1s ja nosta edellinen tämän yli. Jatka, kunnes tulet loppuun, katkaise lanka ja vedä viimeisen s:n läpi.
Toista sama toiselle puolelle.
7. Takakpl: Neulo 43s, päättele 12 s, neulo 43s. Neulo takakpl, kuten etukpl, mutta neulo vai 3-5 kerrosta.

Hihat:

1. Luo 54s pyöröpuikolle nro 3.

2. Neulo 1o 1n- joustinneuletta noin 5cm.

3. Siirrä silmukat puikolle nro 4 ja neulo yksi kerros oikein.
4. Lisää silmukoita, 3s per krs, seuraavilla kerroksilla:
2, 10, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 139.
5. Neulo vielä yksi kerros oikein.
6. Päättele samoin kuin olkasaumat.

Viimeistelyt:
Kaikki ompelut tapahtuvat käsin.
1. Ompele olkasaumat yhteen. (Muista jättää tarpeeksi iso kaula-aukko)
2. Ompele hihat paikoilleen.
3. Päättele kaikki langat huolellisesti.

Little treats

As so many other, I had last week off. I decided to laze around all week, 'cause I didn't have anything that actually needed to be done. I did a little baking and knitting (more about that later). With my bakings, I stayed on a quite safe line. By adapting this recipe I baked two kinds of cookies. 

The colourful smarties cookies turned out really nice.

The second ones, chocolate chip cookies were gone in a day- without exaggerateing at all!

By adapting a basic cupcake recipe, I made raspberry cupcakes and blueberry cupcakes. Raspberry ones I baked into pink cases and blueberry ones into blue cases.

The snuggliest jumper ever

At the end of last summer, I decided to start a project I've been planning for a long time. I've wanted a big, long and warm jumper for probably about few years now. I finally got a grip on myself and started knitting. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would and it didn't take me as long as I thought it would. It's really warm, so big and I love it. 

The yarn I used is black 7 Veljestä from Novita (a Finnish brand) and I needed 5 balls (150g each) of it. I knitted this using circular needles sizes 3mm and 4mm.

Sain vihdoin ja viimein tehtyä pitkä-aikaisen haaveeni, jättivillapaidan. Novitan 7 veikkaa mustana meni 5 kerää, neulominen tapahtui pyöröpuikoilla 3mm ja 4mm. On iso, on lämmin ja minä tykkään!

Good behaviour

Clearly my boyfriend thinks I've been a good girl, since I've received really nice baking related treats. In addition to the cutest apron in the world, I  got a cake tin with a removable bottom, a muffin tin and muffin cases with polkadots. 

Using my new tin and cases, I baked some American style chocolate muffins with dark chocolate spurts and cocoa powder on top.

The apron is from Cherry Pie Couture and everything else from Lakeland. What more could a bakery-lover want?

Wearing pink

 Baby Annabel should be warm playing outside now that she has a new set of warm clothes.
 Pattern for the mittens, socks and poncho I found on Ravelry, the pattern for the hat is my own. I used Hayfield's Bonus yarn for this, which is 100% acrylic.

This set is going to get wrapped in a christmasey paper and end up under the christmas tree, but as I don't think the receiver really reads my blog (or anything for that matter) I'll be safe posting this already.

What can you make with old t-shirts?

I had a big pile of old shirts I don't wear. These shirts, however, are full of memories, so I didn't feel like throwing them away. Here I have some ideas how to use them.

Option 1: Basket or a shopping bag

First, I used four black t-shirts, cut into strips. This big basket is made like the small basket, but with handles. Diameter is 25cm and height 20cm. By making the handles longer and modifying the base a bit you could make a great shopping bag.

Option 2: Bathroom rug

Very simple, round crochet rug. I used four and a half t-shirts and the rug is 47cm diameter. This is not only simple, but quick to crochet too. It took me 2,5 hours to finish the whole project. Recipe: blueberry cheesecake

This cheesecake is a mixture of two recipes. I found the other one online and the other one is from a book called Tempting Cheesecakes, from 1985.

Base:

0,5 dl soft butter
0,5 dl sugar
3,5 dl biscuit crumbs (I used half digestives and half ginger biscuits)
Filling:
2 dl sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
670 g cream cheese

Topping:
225 g blueberries (or any other berries)
0,5 dl sugar
2 tbsp lemonjuice
1 tbsp gelatine powder
Recipe:
1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees.
2. Base: Heat up the sugar and butter on a pan until the butter is melted. Add biscuit crumbs, mix well. Press the mixture into a cake tin with a removable bottom.
3. Filling: With electric whisk mix the cream cheese and sugar, add vanilla and eggs mixing the whole time. Pour onto the biscuitbase in a tin. Bake for about 25-35 mins, until set. Leave to cool.
4. Topping: Sieve the blueberries, keeping the juice. On a pan, cook the blueberries gently witht sugar and gelatine. In a jug, combine the blueberry juice with lemon juice and add cold water, until you have 150 ml liquid. Pour onto the pan.
5. Simmer the mixture on a gentle heat until it thickens. Remove from the heat and let cool.
6. Pour on the top of the cake in the tin and put in the fridge for about 3-4 hours until completely set.

Cross stitching

At some point in my life, I was really into cross stitching. I liked doing it very much, but I wasn't that keen on having the pictures hanging on my wall. I gave most of them to my mom. While spending summer holiday at my mom's country cottage home, I realized she had quite a few of them around the house.

I didn't have a change to take photos of them all, maybe I get to do that next time I visit. The pattern for the first picture is from a magazine and other two are from Atelje Margaretha.

I started to cross stitch this tablecloth a while ago and finished it quite quickly, to be fair, but not until recently I had a change to sew the hems. Now it's finally finished. 

My mom had been picking berries in the woods the other day, so one morning I baked a big blueberry pie.

Kyllä tätäkin periaatetta on sitten ihan puhki asti tullut kulutettua. Muun muassa tässä viime syksynä ostamassa paidassa. Eipä ole tullut kertaakaa käytettyä, turhan räikeyden vuoksi.

Sain kuitenkin paidalle loistavan vision, enkä onneksi heittänyt sitä pois. Ruutupaidasta meinaan kehkeytyi varsin sutjakka kaulahuivi!

Ja nyt seuraa nopsa (ja valitettavasti kuvaton, syytän keittiön kehnoa valaistusta) ohje tälle muodonmuutokselle:

Tarvitset: 

Puuvillapaidan, sakset, mittanauhan, nuppareita, ratkojan, lankaa ja ompelukoneen.

Työ-ohje:

1. Ratko napit ym. irti. Käännä paita nurin. Leikkaa sopiviksi paloiksi. Voit tehdä huivista esim. neliön tai suorakaiteen. 

2. Sovita ja neulaa palat yhteen. Tarvittaessa leikkele paloja. 

3. Ompele palat yhteen suoralla ompeleella. 

4. Halutessasi voit lisätä yksityiskohtia ja koristeita, kuten irtiratkottuja nappeja.

5. Leikkaa reunat tasaisiksi.

6. Huolittele reunat siksakilla noin 0,5cm:n päästä reunasta.

Tower of cupcakes

 In the beginning of August, we had a family summer party at my mom's. For this occasion I baked a selection of cupcakes, decorated with buttercream and sugar decorations. Alltogether I baked 55 cupcakes; 20pcs of chocolate, 20pcs of lemon and 15pcs of a double mixture of these two.

For the buttercream I used 150g soft butter and 250g icing sugar. I added few drops of food colourings too and you can also add flavourings. After mixing all the ingredients together, just extrude it onto the cakes.

I decorated 40 fairycakes and here they are.

Tässä nyt loistava käyttötapa yhdelle niistä viimeksi esitellyistä kirpparihuiveista. Päätin tehdä uuden pussukan puikoilleni sen viimekesäisen tilalle.

Alla oma ohjeeni tähän pussukkaan. Toivottavasti paint:lla väsäämäni "upea" mallikuva vähän auttaa.

Tarvikkeet:

Kuviollista kangasta, puuvilla

Yksiväristä kangasta, puuvilla

Painoneppari + vastakappale 

Lankaa, mittanauha, sakset, nuppineuloja ja ompelukone

Leikkaa kuviollisesta kankaasta palat: 

66cm x 30cm (päällikangas/ulkokuori)

66cm x 21cm (iso tasku)

Leikkaa yksivärisestä kankaasta palat:

66cm x 30cm (vuorikangas)

13cm x 20cm (pikkutasku)

Leikkaa vielä jommasta kummasta:

5cm x 50cm (kiinnityslenkki)

Työ-ohje:

1. Leikkaa palat ja siksakkaa reunat. Ompele taskujen pitkälle sivulle päärme.

2. Ompele pikku tasku ison taskun päälle haluamaasi kohtaan. Ompele lenkin pitkä sivu ja käännä. Käännä toisenn lyhyen sivun päät sisään ja ompele.

3. Neulaa iso tasku vuorikankaaseen. Merkitse kujat neuloilla ja ompele kujat. (1-3cm normaali, 9cm pyöröpuikot, 4cm sakset)

4. Ompele kappaleet yhteen, lenkki toiselle lyhyelle sivulle. 

5. Käännä työ ja tikkaa reunat. 

6. Ompele yläreunan taite. 

7. Kiinnitä painoneppari ja vastapala vasaralla; toinen puoli lenkin päähän ja toinen pussukan reunaan lenkin ompelukohdan viereen.

Ohjeeseen en merkinnyt päärmeiden ym. senttimääriä, koska en tajunnut niitä mitata. (Typerys) Yleensä itse ompelen noin 0,5-1cm päästä. Palojen koot ja mitat ovat muunneltavissa omien tarpeiden ja mielen mukaan.

Olikos tästä kellekkään mitään apua?

Kuvausrekvisiittana toimivat äidin puikot.

Sewing machine & shopping

Finally a sewing machine! I'm spending my summer holiday in Finland and using my mom's sewing machine while here. I got my first sewing project done today. This dress had a shred of fabric at the hem to create a baggy effect. Well, I didn't exactly like, to I took it off.

I also did some yarn shopping and flea market browsing and bought all these, plus 7 balls of black yarn for a bigger project that's coming up! Scarfs and tablecloths turned out to cost me 2euros alltogether! I have few new visions and ideas in my back pocket, you'll be hearing about them later on!

Apple cupcakes with icing and sprinkles. A basic cupcake batter with small chunks of apple in it, easy!
 Doubles. The other half on these is chocolate and the other half is vanilla.

I've wanted to crochet a basket for a long time now. Well, I've finally done it! But only in a smaller size, just to test first. This one made of strips cut out of old t-shirts and I used a hook number 8. Diameter for the ready basket is 15cm.

Don't let your fingers burn

A round potholder is a perfect project for someone who wants to get rid of all the teeny tiny left-over yarns. This is a proof. It's also very easy and looks super granny (me likes)!

  I made this potholder by just crocheting a round. Decorative edge is made by first making loops around the circle and then making three (3) double crochets/trebles to each loop, all the way round. Finally, I made a hanging loop with chains.

Recipe: All-Bran Muffins

Who knew that Kellogg's has a whole website full of All-Bran recipes? They have a great range of all kinds of recipes from snacks to meals. Whos idea was to put cereals into a lasagna? Check all the recipes here. I chose a safe one to test, everyday muffins.

Muffins, makes 12 

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup sugar

1 tbsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1 1/2 k All-Bran cereals

1 1/4 cups milk

1 egg

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1. Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. 

2. In another bowl combine cereals and milk. Let stand for about 5 mins for the cereal to soften. Add the flour mixture and stir well.

3. Portion batter into muffin cases. Bake in 200c (gas mark 6) for about 15-20mins.

Soft dreams, bunny and teddy

When granny squares started to completely come out of my ears, I chose to try something else instead, granny stripes. 

For this project, I had 90 loops and I crocheted 50 rows (2 rows with one colour). Measurements for the ready blanket are 51x63cm. Pattern from here.

Retro flowers

When I moved to my own flat at the age of 16, my grandma gave me an old duvet cover. The fabric was actually so holey and old it I didn't feel like having it in my bed. Instead, I made my kitchen curtain of it. 

A basic valence curtain was a perfect design to make and even left me some fabric. That left-over fabric I used to cover a footstool I had planned to put in the kitchen. 

There wasn't enough fabric to cover the whole footstool, so I only covered the sides with it and used a white cotton on top. To avoid the too-empty look, I used appliqued a flower on the tops part. This footstool is the same kinda stool than this, apparently people don't seem to love their original appearance.

T-shirts in a cosmetic surgery

Two of my older t-shirts saw the scissors this week. I'm not really a fan on basic t-shirts, but I like the prints on these.

The first victim was Hard Rock Cafe London's shirt, which I actually bought for this purpose last November. 

The other one was a band t-shirt I've had since 2009. Bring Me The Horizon isn't my favourite band, but I do like their desings. And the music too.

With both shirts I enlarged the neckline and shortened the sleeves.

I just recently bought this adorable Itty Bitty Baking Kit from Urban Outfitters. The kit includes a silicone cupcake tray, a little booklet, a piping tube with three nozzles, three cutters and a spoon. All in mini size, obviously.
I also bought some chocolate chips and food colourings. 

They did turn out very cute, but the decorating part was slightly irritating, as these are in absolute mini size.

The booklet says, that with a normal cupcake recipe, you can make 300 pcs of these!

What are you crafting at the moment and what's the last thing you made?

The last thing I made was a pair of grey lace socks for my friend. At the moment I have several christmas goods and my granny square blanket going. 

What kinda childhood memories do you have including crafts?

On second grade, we made really cool bags from sackcloth. Appliqueing fruits of felt we decorated them. I can't remember if I ever actually used it, but I do remember my classmates doing so. I also remeber the waffle cloth and the grey felt teddy I made.

Have you learned any crafty skills from any of your family members or relatives before going to school?

Not before. After I got into art school and got interested in knitting, I had lots of help from an elderly lady in my family.

The best thing in craft lessons in school?

I agree with Petra on this. The opportunity to try out almost anything and everything. Materials, techniques etc.

I have no bad experiences or memories, so I'll just say there wasn't enough crafts lessons!

How did your first socks or mittens turned out 

No great. My first pair of woolly socks looked very deformed. They had dark blue sides and light blue foot. The sides were so short and odd-looking. 

Sewing machine, a friend or enemy? 

On third grade I was sewing for the very first times and I managed to make the needle go over my finger. The thread went through my finger and nail and it hurt. Nowadays we're better friends and I really enjoy sewing! I wish I had a proper industrial sewing machine, after being used to them at school my own one feels so toyish.

The biggest thing you've ever made? 

Covering for 60's chair. The shape was very difficult and I made a bad choice fabric wise, but managed to get through and be proud of my work!

Mayday party!

The worst/fanciest clothing you've sewed?

The fanciest (or at least the most worn) is a black hoodie I made few years ago. The worst is a pair of jeans I made on 6th grade. I actually wore them, but my, they were horrible! 

Have you ever given any of your craftings as a present, what? 

Oh, yes. Almost anything. Mittens and socks, jewellery, vinylbowls and -clocks, bags, scarfs, hats, cards.. 

What would you like to learn?

 I'd like to be better at sewing clothes. Drawing own patterns would also be ace!

What would be your dream crafty shop? What was the last crafty puchase you made?

A shop that would full of everything, ribbons, yarns, books, buttons, fabrics, beads, paper craft stuff, anything and everything! The last thing I bought was yarn for my knitting.

Could you do this as a career?

No. I wanna keep all the joy and excitement I get out of this. I'm afraid that making this a career would ruin it. Even though I studied sewing for three years, still.

After the last christmas fair update, this is what I've knitted.

Socks for adults, again with laces and cables.

Kids' socks, striped and laced ones.

One pair of mittens and two pairs of half gloves. Cables on the mittens and on the other pair of half gloves.

Peukalon kolo: 

Kokeile lapasta käteen välillä. Kun korkeus on hyvä peukalon aloittamiseen, tee seuraavasti:

Oikean käden lapanen: neulo kolmannen puikon alusta 1s oikein, poimi hakaneulaan 6s, luo puikolle uudet 6s, jatka kutomista normaalisti.

Vasemman käden lapanen: Kudo neljännen puikon ensimmäiset 5s oikein, poimi hakaneulaan 6s, luo puikolle uudet 6s, kudo viimeinen s oikein, jatka kutomista normaalisti.

Kärkikavennukset:

Kun lapanen on tarpeeksi pitkä (pikkusormi menee piiloon), lopeta mallikerta ja aloita kavennukset: 1. ja 3. puikon 2 ensimmäistä silmukkaa yhteen, 2. ja 4. puikon 2 viimeistä silmukkaa yhteen.

Peukalo:

Poimi hakaneulaan laitetut 6s yhdelle puikolle, poimi ympäriltä silmukoita niin, että silmukoita on yht. 16, jaa tasaisesti neljälle puikolle (4s/puikko) ja kudo o, kunnes peukalo peittyy melkein kokonaan. Tee kavennukset samalla tavalla kuin lapasen kärkikavennukset.

My camera has been broken and in a Nikon repair center for a while now. Today, the lovely postman delivered my baby back to me. 

Now that I have camera again, I'll show you what I've been up to. I will be taking part of a christmas fair at the Finnish church here, in London. For that, I've been knitting away.

Socks for adults. Striped, cabled, laced and plain ones.

Socks for children. Cabled ones and plain ones.

Mittens with lace pattern and cables. Plain ones too.

There are more to come, this is only what I've done so far.

Another one

I get to tick out two things from my to do-list. 
Few days ago I finished the tube scarf number 2. Almost identical with the first one, apart from the colour and the lenght. This is only couple of centimetres shorter. Tick one! 

I wore my new scarf today, when I met up with my girls and sat on the chair in tattoo parlour. I got my tragus! Tick two!

I also had a great chance to show off my new ring I got from ebay. I beat the one other bidder and got this beauty! It was love at first sight.

 I got awarded with the Beautiful Blogger Award by Juulia. A big thank you!
 The thing is, once you receive this award, you have to tell 7 facts about yourself, so here they come!

Fact number 1: I've been writing about four blogs in the past year, always deleting and changing something. Then adding new and soon deleting again. I have settled down and will only be having one blog.

Fack number 2: My first ever craftings were clothes for my Barbies. I also had a collection of Lego Scala, and those girls had quite a lot of clothes too. I think my mom might have kept the clothes, so they might see the daylight again some day. 

Fack number 3: I love bodymodification, especially tattoos. I have 6 tattoos myself, most of them my ultimate favourite style, old school. I've tattooed one of them myself.

Fact number 4: Even though I'm Finnish, I currently live in London. I'm working as an au pair in a half-Finnish family and looking after two adorable kids. So far I love London, apart from the central. 

Fact number 5: At the moment I can't knit at all, 'cause I have been doing it so much lately, that my fingers are really sore. I also miss my dear sewing machine very much!

Fact number 6: I'm glad I didn't count on my childhood dream careers. When I was a little girl, my uncle asked if I'll become a politician as I talk so much. The answer was "no, I'll become unemployed" In preschool our teachers interviewed us and asked what will we be, when we grow up. The other girls wanted to be vets and horse riders, when my answer was... well, a beauty pageant winner. 

Fact number 7: I have an endless to do-list. Every time I get one thing done, I add about three more.

This year, I'd like to do the following:

1. Organize my jewellerybox.

2. Crochet  a basket for my yarns.

3. Go to roller disco. 

4. Travel somewhere.

5. Have either rook or tragus piercing.

6. Start crocheting a granny's stripes-blanket.

7. Knit another superscarf, in black.

8. Bake some yummy things.

Well, we'll see how many of these things I actually get around doing. I'm very good at not doing the things on my to do-list.

Becoming a granny...

When can you tell someone's turning to a granny? 

When they start baking cardamom buns and knitting socks!

So, clearly I am getting there pretty fast. I have been knitting so many socks and mittens lately for the christmas and I baked cardamom buns the other day. 

I also baked some more cookies and cinnamon buns. I had two little helpers, who made quite a mess in the kitchen. (Like I never make a mess...)

I re-filled my yarn stock the other day, I found colours so delicious, I couldn't resist. I didn't even try.

Oh-so-simple cookies

This is a very simple basic cookie recipe that can be modified with all different things, such as chocolate chips.

Cookies (makes about 48pcs) 

6,5dl flour

3,5dl caster sugar

220g butter

1 egg

1tl vanillasugar/flavouring

1tl baking soda

1tl baking powder

1. Pick the sugar and the butter with your fingers. Add egg and the rest of the ingredients, beating occasionally. (Add chocolate chips etc, if using.)

2. Take small clodsof batter, roll a bit in you hands, put on greaseproof paper or baking tray and press down a bit.

3. Bake in 200 C (gas mark 6) for 8 mins.

I've been reading quite a few blogs and browsing on Ravelry. After days of inspiration boosts, I wanted to start with some colour work-pattern. Even though colour work isn't my strong points, I decided to do it. That's how you get better, by practising, right?

I finished this pair of mittens last night. I designed this paw pattern myself, as I couldn't be bothered to look up for one.

Our cat (called Muffin) high recommendations can be read on her face, am I right?

Flood of flowers

To cheer up these cold, rainy days, I've crocheted some flowers.

 In the coloured ones I used Novita Puro-yarn I got from Finland, before moving over here.  It's nice and fluffy yarn and it's been dyed so it changes it's colour. All these flowers are from the same ball of yarn.

I found a really easy pattern for the flowers from here. The pattern is in Finnish.

The other pattern is from here. (Also in Finnish) I only crocheted this one 'till row 5, as I wanted to make it a bit smaller.

Superscarf!

Here it comes: my new superscarf! 

With 252 loops, acrylic yarn, circular needle size 8 (US) ja 2k 2p- knitting garment all the way through, I made this massive scarf. I used about 300g of yarn.

The beginning was a bit frustrating, as it didn't seem to become any bigger at all, but once I got into the rhythm, I was finished in three days! There are many ways to wear this scarf, it's so handy.

As a scarf.

As a hood.

As a poncho/bolero.

In the last two pictures, I was trying to demostrate how big it actually is. It's warm, it's soft and it's so easy to knit. I'm already planning on making another, in black, or maybe in grey.

The battle against the cold

Coldness. A friend of the autumn and winter. This year I will be ready when it strikes. I've already finished few projects and I have few more things coming up.

The first thing I need, is a pair of warm, woolly socks. I used Novita 7 veljestä Linnut, Sinisorsa- yarn for these.

I also knitted a pair of pretty cabled half-gloves, using Novita Nalle-yarn.

On the background of the first picture, you can see my next project, that's already on it's way. I shall not be cold this winter!

Sewing machine whirring

It has been such a long time since I last used my sewing machine properly. Properly, as in making something else than coin purses or make up bags. I made this oh-so-simple shirt from grey tricot and it only took me what, less than an hour?

Does anyone remember this brown package? Well, here it is! My vision for the fabric has come true.
(It's only fair to say, that I'm not happy with the result. I don't what is it, but something just isn't right with this one.)

Only few more days before I'm moving houses. There might be a smallish break ahead, as I'm moving quite far away. That is, to London!

Kittens looking for a home! (giveaway)

Hello! 

Here we have a litter of four lovely kittens. These little ones are very good mannered, clean and come with a petit appetite. They do need lots of love and they want to be taken care of. We don't know anything about their parents, as some of them are quite extraordinary colourwise. They haven't been named yet, I'm gonna let the new owners do that.

You might wanna hang a keyring through your kitten's ear to keep them with you everywhere to avoid mutual longing.

This flock was born last night and we are giving them away exceptionally early. The little ones will be ready to move to their new homes from tomorrow (Monday) on. 

Kittens will be given away either personally or via mail. (They can handle the travelling well.) The postal charge will be required if the kittens are going to travel, but other than that, they will be given away without any compensations.

Delicious birthday!

I think I might be getting a bit too into this whole amigurumi thing. This is all I do now. The same thing happened with the vinyl records, I discovered a nice technique and couldn't let go of it!

This time, I made a cupcake pin cushion for my class mate. I used some rainbow-coloured left-over yarn for the topping.

To make this little pressie perfect, I folded this little origami box for the cupcake.
I did buy her a real cupcake too, from the nearest bakery shop.

Living in a zoo

After crocheting my first amigurumis, I kept wanting more. First there was an owl, then a duck and soon I had an elephant in my room!

My mom's favourite is the tortoise and my little sister fell in love with the elephant. My personal favourite is definitely and unconditionally the little duckling! I named her Doris, just like in the original pattern.

You may find these slightly different than the original ones, because of the different yarns and eyes I used. No one's identical, not even the real animal, so who cares? All the patterns are from here.

Cupcake time!

Lately, I've kept seeing lots of amigurumis all around. I wanted to try them too! After surfing in the internet for a while, I ended up trying out this pattern.

Amigurumi is Japanese on means a small knitted or crocheted figure, for example an animal. The work comes from words ami, which means crocheted or knitted and nuigurumi, which means doll. For more information, check here.

 I found lovely pattern and can't wait to try them out!

The baker's daughter

I did some baking with my little brother this morning. From my mom's garden, I fetched some rhubarb and made a huge pie.
On my brother's request, we also made some cupcakes with cream cheese icing.

"They look like froggies!"

More granny squares are also on their way, I've really got into the rhythm now.

And then something different! I covered three white card board magazine holders with a napkin. Using only the top layer of the napkin and some découpage varnish, these turned out to look very pretty! The only downside is, that they didn't dry properly and are slightly sticky...

Granny squares on the beach

Spending a whole sunny day on the beach with your family. Sounds great, right? Sounds a bit boring, if you ask me.

Luckily, I had a plan. I packed my hook and left-over yarns and started a project I've been meaning to start for so long.

Between swimming and eating a picnic and chatting away with everyone, I managed to crochet 27 squares.

3D and 70's

Without nothing better to do, I did some paper crafts yesterday. It's been a while since I made any cards, but I think these turned out nice and summery. For 3D cards, I had a booklet with all the pictures I needed.

My mom had found these cutie pie books from somewhere being as wonderful as she is, she gave them to me. We did have a little laugh reading them with my friend. We discovered that the other one is from -73 and the other from -71.

Fruity summer

Finally, after thinking about how much I wanted one these, I started sewing today. And, because it is summer, I wanted to use summery fabric too. This apple and pear fabric is something my mom gave me ages ago.

I have loads of pockets for all the needles and hooks, small and tall ones! Yes, it looks very empty in the pictures, I have few projects going on right now, I've borrowed few for various people and sadly, I don't own that many needles. Yet.

Housewarming

On Friday, my friend had a housewarming party with a pirate theme. I didn't have anything suitable to wear, so I destroyed an old t-shirt of my grandma's. (After she happily volunteered to give it to me.) Before and after:

The only thing I really did was cutting the neckline a bit bigger. And yeah, my cheek piercing is sticking out, but only because it's new!

As a housewarming present I gave away -again, I know- a vinyl clock and a pair of fridge magnets I made.

Working in a fabric shop has it's benefits. You might find pretty fabrics just by accident. You might get an idea for those specific fabrics. You also might get a 20% discount just for working there. 2,5 metres of this fabric travelled back home with me today. I have vision for it, but I'm not going to reveal it just yet. 
At my workplace, we pack our fabrics in brown paper. No sellotape, strings only if the packages are big. We don't have plastic bags at all. Brilliant, isn't it?

Birthday girls

On Saturday, I was celebrating one of my girl friend's birthday, by having a nice barbeque.
As a little pressie, I made her the same vinyl bowl and clock I have myself. I used mathing records and made a matching b'day card too!

From that same record case I cut out another birthday card for another birthday girl. The actual present was a hairband I made myself braiding three strips of tricot weft and sewing the ends together.

Not just jeans

I got these stripy jeans from the recycling center for free ages ago. They never fitted on me, and I never even wanted them to do so. The leg part I turned into a bigger make up bag and the back pockets into a smaller one. Small zipper I got from a flea market.

Another pair of Levi's jeans I simply ripped into pieces and glued on empty soup cans. I also ripped off some details to decorate these.

Remember the last post I told about the bowls? Well, I wanted to make something to match them. Solution: I glued a clock mechanism on the other side of the record and attatched the pointer on the other. Simple? Yes. Pretty? Definitely yes!

Vinyl record fun!

Today I was an early bird -which I'm usually not these days- and decided to actually do something useful. I visited my grandma, who gave me some of her old vinyl records. It's already lovely to see her, and adding the fact that there's always something to find from her attic, just makes it even nicer to visit her.
So, from this pretty cool-looking material I got, I made some bowls and bracelets.

Bolws are made by just heating them up in the oven over an oven-proof bowl. Bracelets I had to cut first, then heat them up and then shape myself.
